|Title||Thaumatrope Activity (Ages 10-11/gr. 5 Colonial)|
This activity is part of the Colonial Exhibit designed for gr. 5 students. There is a background/instruction sheet in a standup plexiglass frame.
In addition, one of the instruction sheets is mounted on foam board measuring 15 by 20 inches. This board would be suitable for display in a game exhibit. The text is covered with plastic contact paper.
There is a wooden box measuring 6 and 1/2 by 4 and 1/4 by2 and 1/4 inches.The box contains reproductions of Thaumatrope toys which students can play with before making their own or these can be used as a demonstration activity before asking students to make theirs. There are 7 completed ones and 2 blank ones. There is an informational booklet entitled "Philosophy In Sport" and dated 1827 (a reproduction). Taped to the bottom of the box is the tag for the box the Thaumatrope toys originally came in.
There is an additional packet containing 5 early 19th century circus "Thaumatropes" for children of all ages. This is put out by Chatham Hill Games, Inc., P.O. Box 253, Chatham, New York 12037.
In January , the donor added more materials for this activity. See image 2. These have been cataloged under the #008.050.30 rather than #008.050.30.2 which appears on the image.
