This is a collection which is not arranged particularly and could be better organized in the future. For now, our goal is to access the folder and make note of key names and events in the folder so researchers will be able to find the information they are seeking. We recommend that an inventory of the papers and other items be done at a later date. (Anne Welles)
A short summary of the contents is:
*newspaper clipping indicating that the snowfall for 1970-1971 was 120 inches;
*bank note signed by Fred P. Smith made out to B.G. Lunt;
*pamphlet of MDI entitled "Town of Mount Desert on Mount Desert Island, Home of Bar Harbor-Tremont, Southwest Harbor" issued for the visitors to the 'Most Beautiful Island in America' (no date but the timeline ends in 1956);
*verses to a song typewritten and signed with the inscription "composed by Hollis M. Smith, 1912"
*pamphlet entitled "Somesville Maine 1761-1961" History in a Sampler;
*brochure entitled "The Somes House, Mount Desert, Maine"
*brochure entitled " Treadway Resorts at Northeast Harbor, Maine, Asticou Inn and Kimball House"
*obituary for Rose L. Dresser, 82, actress
*Bar Harbor Times selects dated January 18, 1990 about the Boston Post Cane recipient for that year who was Ruth Wiberg of Southwest Harbor
*copy of a newspaper clipping about the MD High School alumni reunion with a picture of the entire High School student population in the fall of 1927 (appeared in the paper August 12, 1971);
*clipping from the Bar Harbor Times, Thursday, July 30, 1964 about WIlliam Manning;
*clipping dated November 14, 1962 entitled "Ships Of The Past When Ellsworth Built 'em";
*clipping from the Bangor Daily News dated January 11, 1963 with a photo of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.'s 100 room summer cottage in Seal Harbor before it was torn down;
* envelope addressed to "Addie Smith of Somesville" with a cancellation mark dated March 1981 and a printed return address of "The White House"
*invitation from the White House with the script signature of Ronald Reagan
